Visitors need special sunscreen when swimming in Belize to prevent ecological damage to reefs and other marine structures.

United States Dollars are accepted virtually everywhere and the vast majority of locations also accept credit cards.  However, there’s usually a charge fee for cards. Brining USD cash is recommended.

The ferry heading to Caye Caulker and Caye Ambergris leaves from the same port.  It takes 30 minutes to reach Caye Caulker and about an hour and a half or two hours to Ambergris (San Pedro).  Buying a round trip ticket is recommended.

Turneffe Reef

Turneffe Reef is an impressive reef formed with unusual underwater topography which supports a diverse aquatic ecology.  The reef is braced against Turneffe Atoll, which can be reached by boat, through there’s no overnight lodging.

The Split

This is a unique area and tourism destination which has a shift in the shallow ocean’s flow.  The water here is exceptionally calm, allowing people to lounge on partially submerged picnic tables. It’s an excellent place for swimming, snorkeling, fishing and kayaking.

The Estuary of Caye Caulker

This is a series of trails and bridges which tour guides use to demonstrate the unique features of the island.  Wildlife is common here, most especially brackish animals such as waterbirds and alligators.

The massages found around Caye Caulker are locally famous for being very affordable and relaxing.

Caveman Snorkeling Tours

The Caveman Snorkeling Tour Agency is by far the most famous and well-respected snorkeling tour along the entire island. They give tours to various reefs and quiet beaches in the region.

Hammock Coast

This is an unofficial name for a small island retreat. However, the Hammock Coast island shore has many public areas where people can lounge on hammocks freely to watch the sunrise or sunset.

Kite Surfing

Caye Caulker has surprisingly stable winds for the majority of the year, making kite surfing a good activity to learn in the area.

Lobster Fest

During the last few days of June, Caye Caulker hosts a large festival involving the catching, cooking and consumption of lobsters.

The Blue Hole

Not to be confused with the Blue Hole found in Inland Belize, the Marine Blue Hole is a naturally-occurring aquatic sinkhole which creates a slew of colors as water “falls” into a deeper part of the ocean, ringed by small atolls.  It takes roughly two hours to reach on a tour boat.  

Seahorse Ranch Reserve

This is a tiny indoor aquarium which protects and raises many baby and adult seahorses.  They’re a lot easier to spot in the conservation ranch than during snorkeling tours.

Feeding Tarpons

Tarpons are an extremely fast, flashy fish.  There’s a feeding station where tourists can buy sardines and assist with the frenzy.  They’ll actually jump free of the water to nab a dangling sardine from a person’s hand.
