Billund is a small town on the Jutland Peninsula in Denmark best known for it’s affiliation with the beloved LEGO building brick. The LEGO Group’s head office is located here and the town is built around LEGO features and culture. This includes the Legoland theme park, a water resort, numerous LEGO-themed sites and various small parks. Below is a guide to visiting Billund, including transportation directions and things to do around town. Billund is primarily a destination for visitors with small children or families.

Getting to Billund

Billund’s public train station closed in the 1950’s, so most visitors primarily arrive by bus, plane or car.

Flying to Billund can be done through the Billund Airport (BLL) which is the second largest airport in Denmark. Flights are available internationally from this location.

Another popular method of arrival is thorugh the bus system. Buses depart to the town from Grindsted, Aarhus, Vejle, Horsens and Kolding. There’s also a direct public bus route from Billund to Vejle and Grindted using lines 244 and 907X.

Other visitors choose to drive personal vehicle to town. Most hotels and cabins affiliated with the town or LEGO-themed parks have parking available.

A Guide to Billund and Things to Do


LEGOLAND Billund

This is the most famous and enduring attraction in Billund and the main reason many tourists come to visit the small, Denmark town. LEGOLAND is a huge LEGO-themed park with numerous rides, small shops, building centers and large-scale LEGO artworks. The majority of this park, which includes over 50 rides and activities, are geared towards children under 15 years old. The park also includes a large LEGO mini-land of famous buildings containing more than 50-million LEGO bricks. This is the central attraction in Billund and the most important feature in a guide to visiting Billund.

LEGO House

Visitors may enjoy this small café-restaurant building advertising itself as a healthy-meal eatery with LEGO-themed art. There are numerous LEGO-themed restaurants throughout town, though this one is centrally located and easy to reach.

Lalandia Amuseument and Water Park

Lalandia

This is a secondary theme-park venue located in Billund, popular in cooler weather for the vast array of indoor activities. Lalandia includes a large indoor, tropical waterpark with waterslides, pools and Jacuzzis. The amusuement park also has bowling, mini-golf, children playgrounds, and other entertainment options.

Skulpturpark

Located on the outskirts of Billund, this is a free-entry abstract sculpture park. The site is very small and easy to explore with children. The tranquil little walkway is decorated with many LEGO-themed sculptures.

Syvaarssoeen

This area includes a level walk through nature with easy trails for children and pets, somewhat outside the city. The 5 km hiking loop takes roughly two hours, following small forests, narrow soft-sand “beaches” and low hills.

Hotel LEGOLAND

This is a large, somewhat popular hotel located near the center of Billund. The hotel offers easy access to the theme-parks and center of the city. Throughout the hotel, guests can enjoy LEGO-themed decorations.

LEGOLAND Holiday Village

This is a large tourism rest area with many small playgrounds, LEGO structures and lodges. Though it costs money and a reservation to stay at the LEGO-lodges, visitors can explore the grounds freely even without a reservation. Spotting the various LEGO sculptures and animals is an entertaining way to spend half-an-hour.

Vandel Gokart

This is a popular Go-kart Racetrack available to children ages 7 and up. The tracks are fairly typical and offer group-deals for families visiting the racetrack.

Teddy Bear Art Museum

A small and amusing museum home to hundreds of teddy bears. The museum’s collection has teddy bears in differing styles, materials and creative motions, poses and designs. The museum is also home to a small café and adjacent garden-park called “Edith’s Garden.”

LEGO Factory

The LEGO Factory is best experienced by booking extended tours, the most popular being 2 and a half day long visits. These tours include transportation throughout Billund, accommodation, included meals, access to the factory and meet-and-greet sessions with the LEGO brick designers. These tours are quite expensive per person.
