Birmingham is a massive shipping area, famed for it’s commercial creation and access for iron-making ingredients. Coal, iron ore and limestone all exist within a ten-mile radius of the city. Birmingham has a unique combination of brick buildings and modern structures, interspaced by more canals than Venice. The city is the second largest metropolitan nucleus of the United Kingdom. Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens

These 10 acres contain a formal English walled garden of the unusual Baroque style. These century-old gardens were restored in the 17th century allowing for the survival of the design. The gardens are one aspect of the Castle Bromwich estate area, much of which has been converted into a hotel space.

Moseley Bog

This is a small nature reserve south of Birmingham teeming with wildlife, wetlands and dry-mounds.  There are also two Bronze Age burnt mounds in the area, and the entire setting served as inspiration for a young Tolkien.

National Motorcycle Museum

Located in East Birmingham, this is an impressive museum featuring well over 1000 totally restored motorcycles, built to the original manufacturer’s specifications.

Damascena Coffee House

This is a a tiny, well-received Middle Easter coffee house with a wide range of dietary-specific options. It’s easy to access as it’s located in Birmingham’s city center.

Great Western Arcade

This is a prominent Victorian shopping arcade damaged and repaired after WWII bombings. Located in the heart of Birmingham, the shopping center holds a large array of independent stores and venues .

Cadbury World

Cadbury Chocolate is one of the most popular brands of sweets in the United Kingdom and it’s largest visitors center is located in Birmingham. This location is a wonderful series of choclate-creation exhibits which allows tours, gift shop visits and a fantastic amount of chocolate. Cadbury World is especially popular with families and young children.

Mowgli’s

This is a small Indian restaurant located in the Birmingham train station with excellent food, swinging seats and a relaxing vibe.

Saltwells Local Nature Reserve

This National Nature Reserve is a historically vital area outside of Birmingham. Once used as a major mining site for coal, ironstone and shales during the industrial revolution, the quarry sites were largely reclaimed by nature as time went on. Now, the massive woodlands are carpeted with bluebells and host a large sculpture park. Visitors can wander the trails enjoying the dramatic landscapes, now used to support orchids, butterfly glens, pond spaces, tricking wetlands and sixteen species of dragonflies.

Lapworth Museum of Geology

This archeological musuem hosts an Evolution of Life gallery with numerous fossil and skeleton replicas of dinosaurs and other creatures. The most iconic skeletons are of the carnivorous dinosaur Allosaurus and a flying Pteranodon. The museum also hosts large educational displays depicting the rock cycle.

Pen Museum

This is a unique and elegant museum devoted to Birmingham’s steel pen trade. The museum discusses the surprisingly interesting history of pen-making and Birmingham’s consider contributions to the writing technology.
