An Overview of Budva

Budva is a small town located on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, known for expansive beaches and a thrilling nightlife. Part of Budva includes an Old Town area which is a community surrounded by stone walls constructed by Venetians. The historic district contains a seaside citadel, numerous religious sites and beautiful views of the sea. Fort Kosmač

This large fortification was established by the Austro-Hungarian Empire to guard their southernmost border. The blocky, pale-stoned fortress overlooks the route following the Budva coast.

Sveti Nikola Island

Located just off Budva’s shores, Sveti Nikola Island is a popular relaxation destination. It’s locally known as “Hawaii” and holds numerous green woods, a small deer population, hidden coves, sea caves and a cliffside beach.

Shkodra Lake

Located to the East of Budva, this beautiful freshwater lake is home to well-preserved native wildlife and a island monastery. Due to the dramatic mountains and long lowlands, this lake ais a beautiful place to visit.

Budva Riviera

The Budva Riviera (Budvanian Riviera) is a 35 km long strip of the Adriatic coast. Due to it’s accessibility and excellent calm waters, it’s the most popular beach of the town.

Budva Hawaii Beach

Located on the Island St. Nicholas, this pebble-sandy beach is colloquially known as “Hawaii Beach.” The beach contains excellent swimming waters and impressive rock formations.

Mogren Beach

Located under a small curving cliff on the West side of town, Mogren Beach is a sandy beach with a couple of interesting tourist features, including the man-made bridge leading beneath the cliffs called “The Door in Stone.”

Becici Beach

This is an expansive scenic beach with clear waters and plenty of views. The area well-developed and has many restaurants and shops nearby.

Plaža Ričardova Glava

Tucked beneath Budva’s Old Town, this popular beach has a small, pebbled shoreline and clear waters.

Ruins of Roman-Era Necropolis

This series of Roman-era ruins lead to a long-collapsed city of the dead. The ruins are divided into two parts. The eldest ruins belong to the Hellenic period between the 4th and 1st century BCE while the newer Roman ruins were constructed in the 1st and 2nd centuries CE. Relics unearthed from this site can be found in the City Museum of Budva.

Tunnel Budva-Becici

This is a short tunnel which connects Budva to the nearby village of Becinci. .The pedestrian tunnel can easily be walked and the interior has some interesting art. The tunnel can be reached by walking along the embankment.

Altstadt (Old Town) Budva

The true gem of Budva is the fortified medieval city and archeological site jutting into the Adriatic. Budva’s Old Town is home to a citadel, many old legends, Roman influences and excellent coastal views.

The Budva Citadel

The Budva Citadel is the most prominent building in the historic walled-town of Budva. The ancient and beautiful structure provides excellent overlooks as well as historical facts regarding the city.

Sveti Stefan

This small town is located to the South of Budva. The villa-peninsula is attatched to the mainland by a beautiful curve of sandy beach (Ivano Vidoni Beach). The town is famous for it’s quaint architecture and the stunning Aman Sveti Stefan resort, a 5-star franchise of the Aman Resorts.

Jaz Battery, Fort Mogren

This is an old ruined fortress with a stunning view, originally made by ruling Austro-Hungarians to defend the western borders of Budva. The fortress saw action duing both World Wars, usually as a warehouse for weapons and ammunition.

Podmaine Monastery

This is a Serbian-Orthodox monastery built in the 15the century by the Crnojević noble family. The pretty little monastery is popular for its interesting frescos, including the Sinful Bishops and Emperors artwork.
