South Asia

South Asia is the southern sub region of Asia, a subcontinent landmass which is home to the highest mountains and some of the most stunning cultures in the world.

The landmass holds three enormous, interlocking mountain ranges, three life-giving river systems, tropical, monsoon-struck jungles and a single, vast desert. This region holds some of the most fantastic natural features the world has to offer. This includes the renowned Mount Everest, the legendary Valley of Flowers, the pure white falls of Dudhsagar, the ancient stone fortress of Sigiriya, the bizarre Katpana Cold Desert and much more.

The countries in South Asia are culturally distinct with hundreds of different sub-cultures, belief systems, ethnic groups and lifestyles. Two of the world’s greatest and most influential religions, Hinduism and Buddhism, were born here. Famous festivals found here such as Holi, the Festival of the Tooth and Jashan-e-Nowruz are among the most vibrant on Earth. The cities in this part of the world are stunning, distinct, ancient and towering monuments to history.

With nations of incredible strength, substance, culture and vitality, South Asia is a region of the world which must not be overlooked.

Old Sean in South Asia

South Asia is a place in the world I truly haven’t given enough of my life to. My visits have been sinfully brief. The majority of my time spent in South Asia is vacation time, rather than actively living there.

But for all that, South Asia is the land of some of my fondest and most intense memories. It’s where I celebrated with friends, flew over the world’s tallest mountain ranges, held onto the sides of moving trains and truly began getting my bearings as a world traveler.

In truth, South Asia continues to call to me. I hope my experiences, limited and profound, can help others enjoy their journey to this incredible region. Please enjoy the articles listed above.

Best regards and excellent trails,

Old Sean.
